So you want to be a DJ, huh?

Excellent!

Radio Boise is looking for a programmer to host a three-hour, weekday afternoon, music mix show.  Noncommercial radio experience is preferred, along with a proven awareness of the variety a show in a well-listened-to time slot entails.  The host should be able to exhibit good knowledge of music in a number of genres; including world, jazz, indy, rock and others, along with the willingness to play one-third new releases each show.  A demonstrated ability to interview and interact with bands along with other guests is preferred, along with a clear, concise, non-excessive, informational microphone demeanor.

We’ll be seeking other programming proposals in the near future, as well – but filling this time slot is the most pressing issue right now.

The best way to begin the process is to submit your program idea using the programming proposal form below or by downloading and mailing the form in.

We look forward to reviewing your proposal and getting the music you love on the air.

First, a little about Radio Boise - KRBX. The primary goal of community radio is to provide diverse radio programming to under-served communities in the Treasure Valley - providing a voice to the voiceless. The station will highlight unique content that is not heard on current radio broadcasts. We also strive to for variety in our programming schedule and expect that diverse music shows make up roughly 75% of our weekly schedule.

Radio Boise also serves as a community-wide bulletin board for issues-oriented information and acts a performance platform for the creative skills of local musicians, artists and youth. Inspiring creativity in the process of addressing community issues and enhancing social, cultural and environmental awareness is our goal. By increasing opportunities for members of the community to access local media to talk and listen to one another, community radio will help grow our local “cultural health”, enhance the quality of place, and further the American tradition of democracy.

Now we’d like to hear about your show. Don’t be intimidated by the following questions—they’re meant to give us an idea of what you want your show to be. Answer can be as short or as long as appropriate.

  • Can you commit to producing a weekly 1 to 3 hour show for 6 months? (Producing a 3 hour show every week will require more than 3 hours of work per week. What other projects like this have you done before? Do you volunteer for any other organizations? In other words, convince us that you will be able to fulfill this commitment.)
  • Do you have or can you access enough material for a weekly show for 6 months?
  • Thanks for your proposal, we look forward to hearing all the show ideas! The BCRP programming committee receives all programming applications and balances our programming needs to reflect our mission within the community. We will let you know if your program application has been selected for broadcast within four weeks of submission.
